How to Reach Roorkee

By Air

The most preferred airport to approach Roorkee is Delhi Airport (Indra Gandhi International Airport) and the distance is 200 km on road (5.5 hours journey by taxi) from Roorkee. However, the nearest airport is located at Dehradun (Jolly grant Airport) and the distance is around 70 km on road (2 hours journey by taxi) from Roorkee.

By Road
From Delhi:
The distance between Delhi and Roorkee is around 180 km (6 hours journey), and one can travel by car or bus. Buses (ordinary, AC and Volvo) are available for Roorkee from Kashmiri Gate ISBT (Delhi) which is 20 km from Delhi Airport. Buses bound for Roorkee, Hardwar, Rishikesh, Saharapur and Dehradun comes/or passes by Roorkee and one has to drop at Roorkee bus stand.

From Dehradun:
The distance between Roorkee and Dehradun is 72 km (2 hours journey) by Road and one can travel by car or bus. Buses (ordinary, AC and Volvo) are available for Roorkee from Dehradun ISBT.

By Train
From Delhi:
The distance by train from Delhi to Roorkee is 212 km. There are 18 direct trains from New Delhi to Roorkee. These trains are Dehradun Janshatabdi (12055), Nanda Devi Exp (12205), Dehradun Shatabdi (12017), Utkal Express (18477), Uttaranchal Exp (19565) etc. The minimum time a train takes to reach Roorkee from New Delhi is 3.5 hours. Other nearby railway stations are Hardwar (30 km), Saharanpur (55 km) and Dehradun (70 km). Buses are available for Roorkee from Hardwar and Saharanpur just outside the railway stations itself.

From Dehradun:
The distance between Dehradun and Roorkee is 93 km (2 hours) by train. There are 4 direct trains from Dehradun to Roorkee. These trains are Dehradun Shatabdi (12017), Dehradun Janshatabdi (12055), Dehradun Exp (12687) and Nanda Devi Express (12205).

 


ABOUT ROORKEE
Roorkee is a city in north India and a municipal corporation in the Haridwar district of state Uttarakhand, India. It is spread over a flat terrain under Sivalik hills of Himalayas. The city is developed on the banks of Ganges canal, its dominant feature, which flows from north–south through middle of the city. Roorkee is home to Asia’s first engineering college Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, formerly known as Thomson College of Engineering. Roorkee is also known for the Roorkee cantonment, one of the country’s oldest military establishment and the headquarters of Bengal Engineer Group since 1853. Roorkee has unique distinction as the first train in the country ran between Roorkee and Piran Kaliyar on 22 December 1851. Roorkee has a population of 2,84,478 people as per 2011 census of India.
